ARS Pharmaceuticals announces neffy® meets primary endpoints and shows rapid symptom control in Phase 2 urticaria clinical study

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 26, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ARS Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPRY), a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to empowering at-risk patients and caregivers to better protect patients from severe allergic reactions that could lead to anaphylaxis, today announced positive efficacy results in its phase 2 inpatient chronic spontaneous urticaria study with neffy (epinephrine nasal spray), an investigational new drug. The trial met its primary endpoints with both 1 mg and 2 mg neffy demonstrating statistically significant and clinically meaningful changes from baseline in itch, hives, urticaria and erythema scores as early as 5 minutes after dosing. Urticaria is a skin disorder that causes itchy hives and/or angioedema; 50% of chronic urticaria cases1 are non-responsive to first-line antihistamine therapy. City of Hope scientists destroy leukemia stem cells

Scientists at City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, have devised an innovative approach to target and destroy hard-to-kill leukemia stem cells. The journal Blood published the preclinical findings today. By overcoming challenges, such as drug resistance and treatment relapse common to patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), the therapy method could provide a less toxic and more effective approach for older and sicker patients who don’t quality for stem cell transplants — currently the only cure for AML available. Type II interferon (IFNy), a substance produced by immune cells, disrupts the leukemia stem cells’ ability to divide and spread cancer. Alvotech (NASDAQ: ALVO), a global biotech company specializing in the development and manufacture of biosimilar medicines for patients worldwide, today announced that it has accepted an offer from investors (the “Investors”) for the sale of 10,127,132 of its ordinary shares, for an approximate value of USD 166 million, par value USD 0.01 per share (the “Shares”), at a purchase price of USD 16.41 per Share, or ISK 2,250 per share at foreign exchange rates on February 23, 2024 (the “Transaction”). The Shares are expected to be delivered to the Investors from previously issued treasury shares held by Alvotech’s subsidiary, Alvotech Manco ehf. Fukushima: TEPCO setzt vierte Charge radioaktives Wasser frei

Das japanische Unternehmen Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO), das das von der Katastrophe betroffene Kernkraftwerk Fukushima 1 betreibt, wird am 28. Februar mit der Ableitung der vierten Charge radioaktiven Wassers aus der Atomanlage starten. Das Unternehmen hat bereits zwei Chargen aufbereitetes Wasser aus dem Kernkraftwerk Fukushima freigegeben. Das Verfahren wurde von der Internationalen Atomenergiebehörde (IAEA) genehmigt. Im Meerwasser rund um das Kernkraftwerk wurde kein erhöhter Tritiumgehalt festgestellt. Im März 2011 legte ein Tsunami die Strom- und Kühlanlagen des Kernkraftwerks Fukushima lahm, was zu einer Kernschmelze in drei Reaktoren und der Freisetzung großer Mengen radioaktiven Materials führte. Bislang wurden das Werk und die umliegenden Bereiche nahezu vollständig saniert. Allerdings strömt das Wasser, das ständig in die zerstörten Reaktoren geschüttet wird, um Kernbrennstofffragmente abzukühlen, durch mit radioaktiven Partikeln stark kontaminierte Lücken nach außen. Derzeit befinden sich im Kernkraftwerk über 1,34 Mio. Tonnen Wasser.…
