Shanghai (LabNews Media LLC) – China's regulatory authority NMPA has approved Satri-cel (CT041, Kaileimei®), the world's first CAR T-cell therapy for the treatment of a solid tumor. The therapy is indicated for advanced adenocarcinoma of the stomach or gastroesophageal junction (Claudin18.2-positive, HER2-negative) in patients who have failed at least two prior therapies.
The Jiahui International Cancer Center (JICC) in Shanghai is well-positioned by this approval to provide patients from home and abroad with access to this new treatment option. The center has a multidisciplinary oncology program and specialized services for international patients. In recent years, the JICC has already treated patients from various countries with CAR T-cell therapies.
Dr. Linli Xuan, Head of Medical Oncology at JICC, described the approval as a significant advancement for patients and the international oncology community. The successful application of CAR T-cell therapies in solid tumors has long been one of the major challenges in cancer medicine. The new therapy not only offers new hope for patients with advanced gastric cancer but also underscores China's growing role in the development of innovative cancer treatments.
The JICC offers a comprehensive range of oncological services, including medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation therapy, precision medicine, and advanced cell therapies. Through specialized consultations, multilingual coordination, and structured treatment pathways, international patients are to be given access to the latest developments in cancer treatment.
The approval of Satri-cel is expected to further increase international demand for innovative oncological therapies from China.
