Lite Speed Defies PHP Security Vulnerabilities

A security vulnerability in PHP, the world's most widely used web programming language, which unexpectedly became public, has put the global IT industry on high alert on Wednesday. Under the name "PHP2Shell", two vulnerabilities in the core of the PHP interpreter (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619) threaten millions of websites, online shops, and government portals. Because technical details and initial functional tests (proofs-of-concept) were leaked online in advance, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) raised the alert level to the second-highest level, "Orange", and advised operators to disconnect servers immediately if in doubt. Municipalities in blackout, all-clear for LiteSpeed users In Germany, authorities and public institutions reacted drastically: several cities such as Mainz, Potsdam, and Halberstadt precautionary shut down their web portals completely. Universities and the Berlin University Hospital Charité also temporarily went offline to prevent compromise. The vulnerabilities have a critical severity of 9.2 out of 10 points on the CVSS scale…

Abbott: Cologuard Plus Receives CE Marking for Colorectal Cancer Screening

Abbott's non-invasive colorectal cancer screening test Cologuard Plus has received the CE mark under the EU In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation (IVDR). As the company announced, this is an important regulatory step to make the stool-based DNA test available in Europe. Abbott is preparing for launch in selected European markets; timing and availability will vary by country, depending on supply chains, reimbursement, and operational readiness. Cologuard Plus analyzes DNA markers and blood in stool associated with colorectal cancer and advanced precancerous lesions. The test requires no bowel preparation, no dietary restrictions, and no sedation. In the pivotal BLUE-C study with over 20,000 participants, Cologuard Plus showed a sensitivity of 95 percent for colorectal cancer with a specificity of 94 percent in the US screening population. Sensitivity for advanced precancerous lesions was 43 percent, and for high-grade dysplasia, it was 74 percent. The number of false-positive results decreased compared to the…

PerturbAI and OpenAI Develop AI Agents for Biomedical Research

The biotech company PerturbAI and OpenAI have jointly developed an AI system designed to assist researchers in evaluating large experimental data. As the companies announced, thousands of AI agents work in parallel to interpret data, link it to scientific literature, and identify promising hypotheses for testing. Scripps Research was also involved in the work; the results were published in a joint preprint and blog post. The background is a growing bottleneck in biomedical research: experiments generate data faster than scientists can evaluate it. According to the information, the agent system analyzed PerturbAI's whole-brain genomic dataset and summarized the findings in just 32 minutes – an estimated serial human analysis and literature search would have taken months to a year. In blinded comparisons with reports from individual AI agents, human biology experts preferred the agents' interpretations in 75 percent of cases; the evaluations concerned...

Google Cloud Integrates OpenAI Models into Model Garden

Google Cloud will also provide OpenAI models to enterprise customers in the future. The company announced that the GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna models will be available in the Google Cloud Model Garden. Google Cloud is thus the only hyperscale provider offering access to all three leading proprietary LLMs, as well as over 200 of its own, third-party, and open-source models on a unified enterprise AI platform. According to Google Cloud, GPT-6 Astra is intended for demanding tasks in programming, computer use, professional activities, and scientific research. GPT-6.1 Sol offers nearly the intelligence of Astra at a lower cost for agent-based coding and professional work. GPT-6 Luna is a fast, cost-effective model for everyday tasks at scale. Customers can select and switch the optimal model based on performance, latency, and cost-effectiveness without being tied to an architecture or separate vendor contracts. Since the OpenAI models are billed directly through the Google Cloud Marketplace…

PHP2Shell: The panic was louder than the danger – and obscures a structural problem of the West

Two critical vulnerabilities in the PHP programming language put authorities and companies worldwide on high alert on October 21, 2026. However, the facts show: there were patches, there were no confirmed breaches, and the most serious recommendation was a precautionary measure. The real question is whether the West is structurally overwhelmed in cyberspace. The vulnerabilities, identified as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, known as "PHP2Shell," each received a CVSS-v4.0 score of 9.2 – the highest severity level. Potentially all PHP versions from PHP 5.4 onwards were affected. Unauthenticated remote arbitrary code execution was theoretically possible. The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) classified the risk as extraordinarily high with a warning level of "3/Orange." The US agency CISA urged organizations to patch immediately – and to take systems that could not be updated promptly offline. This looks like a...

BSI warns of critical vulnerabilities in PHP

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) warns of critical vulnerabilities in the PHP programming language that threaten web applications worldwide. The developers plan to release security updates on Wednesday at 4 p.m. German time. The BSI called on IT security officers and operators to install them immediately after they become available. According to current information, all known PHP versions back to at least PHP 5 are vulnerable. Currently, according to BSI data, it cannot be ruled out that attackers could remotely execute malicious code on web servers with PHP applications. PHP is a central component in web applications and is used worldwide. With knowledge of the vulnerabilities, attackers could launch massive campaigns and compromise IT systems in a wide range of application areas. "We consider short-term, large-scale exploitation within a few hours of the security updates being released to be likely: Attackers can analyze them within a short time using AI-powered tools and generate corresponding exploits. Therefore, there is an immediate need for action!", said...

FDA expands import ban to include additional Olympus devices

The US drug authority FDA has extended an import ban (Import Alert) to further medical devices from the manufacturer Olympus Medical Systems. As the authority announced, it updated its information letter to medical facilities. The goal is to prevent future shipments of these devices to the USA. According to the FDA, this affects certain models of the Endocapsule small intestine capsule endoscope set (MAJ-2027), the Evis Exera II small intestine videoscope (SIF-Q180), and the Endoeye Flex Deflectable Videoscope (LTF-S190-10). As early as June 24, 2025, the authority had published a letter regarding import bans for certain Olympus devices and subsidiaries manufactured in Japan. The current update is aimed at facilities that own certain other Olympus devices manufactured abroad. Previously, the FDA had sent Olympus a warning letter (Warning Letter) for significant violations of the Quality Management System Regulation and medical device reporting requirements. Questions can be directed to the Office of Industry and Consumer Education (DICE) of the CDRH ...
