German artist Marita Vollborn will present her bronze sculpture "ARES" at the Chianciano Biennale 2026 at the Chianciano Art Museum in Tuscany from August 15 to 29. She has been selected as one of the featured artists for the international exhibition.
Vollborn, born in 1965 in Erfurt, is not only a sculptor but also a journalist and author. Since 2010 she has devoted herself intensively to sculpture. Her central project "Sinn und Scherben®" ("Sense and Shards") comprises around 50 sculptures in clay and bronze created between 2010 and 2019. The works explore personal and societal themes – from hope and loss to pain, courage, and social change. Vollborn sees her art as a critical counterpoint to commercial trends, deliberately conveying uncomfortable, thought-provoking messages.
In addition to physical sculptures, Vollborn works with digital art and NFTs. She combines her bronze pieces with historical photographs from the "ZEITGEIST91" project, which documents the social upheaval after German reunification. Her works are available on platforms such as Saatchi Art, OpenSea, and Rarible.
Participation in the Chianciano Biennale 2026 marks another highlight in her artistic career. The Biennale is an important platform for contemporary art and brings together artists from various countries. Vollborn’s bronze sculpture "ARES" will be on display as part of her sculptural oeuvre, which is characterized by expressive, often fragmented forms and an intense engagement with human and societal issues.
Her website maritavollborn.art currently prominently features the Biennale invitation and provides insight into her multifaceted work – from studio art and digital editions to exhibition announcements.
With her selection for the Chianciano Biennale 2026, Marita Vollborn receives international recognition for her artistic practice, which bridges real-world sculpture, photography, and digital art while maintaining a critical, socially engaged perspective.
