Marijuana is bad for the heart
A new study led by researchers at UC San Francisco concludes that chronic cannabis use – whether smoked or consumed in edible form – is associated with significant cardiovascular risks. The report, published on May 28 in JAMA Cardiology, found that people who regularly used marijuana in both forms had reduced blood vessel function comparable to that of tobacco smokers. Vascular function in those who consumed cannabis in both forms was reduced by about half compared to those who did not use it. Reduced vascular function is associated with a higher risk of heart attack, high blood pressure, and other cardiovascular diseases.
