Bruker invites to webinar on Fourier 80 Multi-Talent: Automated Benchtop NMR for Research and Quality Control

The company Bruker BioSpin is hosting an exclusive webinar showcasing the capabilities of the compact NMR spectrometer Fourier 80. Under the motto "Multi-Talent," the device is to be presented as an all-in-one solution for multinuclear analyses, finding particular application in academic research, industrial quality control, and method development. Experts from the manufacturer will demonstrate the intuitive workflow from sample introduction to identification and quantification. The seminar is aimed at scientists and professionals seeking efficient, reproducible NMR analyses with minimal effort.

Benchtop NMR systems have established themselves in recent years as an alternative to large high-field instruments. They require less space, are lower maintenance, and can be used directly in the laboratory. The Fourier 80 from Bruker, which has been on the market since 2019, operates with an 80 MHz magnet and supports protons as well as over 15 other nuclei such as fluorine-19, phosphorus-31, or carbon-13. The webinar focuses on automation features: an integrated autosampler allows sequential processing of multiple samples without manual intervention, increasing throughput and reducing sources of error. The GoScan software ensures user-friendly operation, with measurement parameters being automatically optimized. This makes the system accessible even to non-specialists, for example in the routine control of pharmaceuticals, food, or polymers.

The speakers bring many years of expertise. Agnes Haber, Product Manager for the Fourier 80, has 15 years of experience in benchtop NMR and has accompanied the device from development to market launch. Benjamin Görling, with Bruker since 2016, specializes in small molecule analysis and automation. Justinas Sakas, on the team since 2024, developed NMR and MS methods for complex mixtures during his PhD at the University of Edinburgh. Together, they will present real-world use cases: from structure elucidation of organic compounds and purity testing in the pharmaceutical industry to the quantification of by-products in reaction mixtures. A key focus is on reproducibility, which is ensured through standardized protocols and calibration.

The background to this event is the growing need for decentralized analysis methods. Traditional NMR devices with superconducting magnets require cryogens, specialized rooms, and trained personnel – factors often missing in small laboratories or production environments. Benchtop systems like the Fourier 80 fill this gap. They operate at room temperature with permanent magnets, yet achieve sufficient resolution for many routine tasks. The market for compact NMR is growing by about 8 percent annually, driven by digitalization and Industry 4.0. In quality control, they enable real-time monitoring, for example, in the release of batches in the chemical or food industries. In academic research, they facilitate entry for students and allow parallel measurements in teaching and project work.

The webinar will take place online and is free of charge. It offers an opportunity to ask questions directly to the experts and gain insights into current developments. Bruker positions the Fourier 80 as a flexible tool that can be expanded with accessories such as a flow cell or temperature control. Automation not only reduces workload but also minimizes contamination risks – an advantage in regulated areas such as pharmaceutical production. Since the introduction of the Fourier 80 in 2019, the company has expanded its portfolio with software updates and application packages. They enable on-site analysis without having to send samples to external service providers. This saves time and costs, especially for time-critical processes.
