Germany's healthcare system faces a dual demographic challenge. The average age of citizens, and thus their need for treatment, is increasing. At the same time, many healthcare professionals will retire in the coming years due to age, without their workforce being replaced by sufficient young talent. Against this backdrop, representatives of the health professions met in Germany in Berlin at the invitation of the German Medical Association today to discuss priority areas for action for a stable, solidarity-based, and patient-oriented healthcare system.
For the more than 30 associations and organizations united in the Bündnis Gesundheit (Health Alliance), these include active promotion of young talent, more cooperation and coordination in care, and adequate and sustainable financing. The Bündnis Gesundheit represents the health professions in Germany, including representatives of nursing and social professions, assistant professions, psychotherapists, pharmacists, physicians and dentists, and providers of medical aids. Thus, the alliance speaks for around four million healthcare professionals
