Protection of children from unhealthy food advertising must now be legally anchored!
More than 35 associations appeal to Chancellor Scholz

A broad alliance of organizations, associations, and initiatives from medicine, health promotion, science, consumer protection, and child and youth protection is appealing in an open letter to Chancellor Olaf Scholz to consistently and effectively implement the law to restrict advertising for unhealthy foods aimed at children and adolescents (KLWG) before the summer break. More than a year after the key points and a first draft by Federal Minister of Food Cem Özdemir were presented, there is still political stagnation regarding child protection in food advertising. The traffic light coalition formulated a clear mandate in the coalition agreement to ensure the protection of children from advertising for foods high in sugar, fat, and salt. However, effective regulations are still pending, according to the alliance.
