Power Wins DPHARM Idol Disrupt

Power, a leading digital platform for patient recruitment, was named the winner of DPHARM Idol Disrupt at the 14th annual DPHARM: Disruptive Innovations to Advance Clinical Research event, held on September 18. The platform introduced a novel AI-driven approach to deliver highly qualified patient referrals that align with protocol criteria, while supporting patients through each step of enrollment. „Roughly 86% of all clinical trials are delayed due to an inability to recruit enough patients. By making it dead simple to discover and evaluate novel therapies, we’re hoping to offer patients a source of hope while reducing the time it takes for new breakthrough drugs to reach approval,“ said Brandon Li, Co-Founder at Power.

3D specimen tomosynthesis can improve breast cancer surgical outcomes

At the 43rd Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO), three leading breast surgeons presented data demonstrating the clinical benefits of The MOZART® 3D Specimen Radiography System from KUBTEC®. Dr. Ash Kothari (Guy’s Hospital, UK), Dr. Tomasz Sacha?bi?ski (Opole Oncology Center, Poland), and MUDr. Jan Beneš (?eské Bud?jovice Hospital, Czech Republic) each shared data from their respective institutions, all pointing to a consistent trend: use of The MOZART System can significantly reduce the need for re-excision surgeries for breast cancer patients. MUDr. Jan Beneš also presented data on how The MOZART System has enabled more healthy tissue preservation at his facility – an important factor in improving patient post-operative cosmesis. „The MOZART System with its tomosynthesis imaging technology gives us immediate and highly detailed 3D information, which allows us to make more precise surgical decisions,“ remarked Dr. Kothari.…

Marburg virus suspected in Hamburg: How quickly could an epidemic spread?

A suspected case of the dangerous Marburg virus caused a stir at Hamburg Central Station on Wednesday. A medical student, who had recently treated an infected patient in Rwanda, showed flu-like symptoms during a train journey from Frankfurt to Hamburg[1][5]. He and an accompanying person were isolated and taken to a hospital. This incident raises the question of how quickly a Marburg virus epidemic could spread in Germany. Low risk of rapid spread The risk of a rapid spread of the Marburg virus in Germany is to be classified as very low for several reasons: Transmission route: The Marburg virus is not transmitted through droplets or aerosols like flu or Covid-19, but through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected persons[2]. This significantly limits the possibilities of transmission. Early detection: The symptoms of Marburg fever appear relatively quickly and clearly, allowing for early detection and isolation of infected individuals[2]. Medical infrastructure: Germany has a well-developed healthcare system…

CDC Statement on Marburg Cases in Rwanda

The CDC is aware of 26 individuals experiencing illness with Marburg virus disease, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Rwanda. According to the Ministry, eight of these individuals have died. The CDC is in contact with health authorities in the Republic of Rwanda and across the region. To date, no cases of Marburg virus disease associated with this outbreak have been reported in the United States, and the expected risk of Marburg virus disease to the general population in the United States is low. Marburg virus disease is a rare, severe viral hemorrhagic fever similar to Ebola that is spread by certain fruit bats in several African countries. It can cause fatal infections in humans. The virus can also spread from person to person through direct contact with sick people. Healthcare workers are at increased risk of infection when caring for patients with this illness. Symptoms can appear suddenly and include fever, rash, and severe bleeding…
