Ludwigshafen, July 3, 2025 – Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in Germany, with around 65,000 new cases annually, and the risk increases with age. BKK Pfalz is now setting new standards in early detection by covering the costs of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) of the prostate for its policyholders. This innovative, radiation-free procedure enables precise diagnostics that detect tumors early and optimize treatment.
The mpMRI provides detailed images of the prostate and can accurately locate aggressive tumor sites. It is used when there is a suspicion of prostate cancer during a check-up – for example, due to an elevated PSA level or an abnormal physical examination. "The earlier a tumor is detected, the better the chances of recovery," emphasizes Thomas Grausam, Head of Customer Relations at BKK Pfalz. "That's why we are pleased that we can offer our policyholders access to this innovative diagnostic procedure – even beyond the statutory framework."
The high accuracy of mpMRI can avoid unnecessary biopsies and specifically improve therapy planning. The prerequisite for cost coverage is a suspicion or a confirmed diagnosis, prescribed by a specialist in urology or an internal medicine oncologist. "With this benefit, we underscore our commitment to making state-of-the-art diagnostics accessible to our policyholders," says Grausam.
BKK Pfalz, a health insurance fund open nationwide with its headquarters in Ludwigshafen, serves around 150,000 policyholders and values innovative and sustainable solutions. In addition to promoting digital offerings, the fund is also committed to prevention and health promotion to address the challenges of climate change. Further information on mpMRI and other services is available on the website www.bkkpfalz.de.
By covering the costs of mpMRI, BKK Pfalz sends a strong signal for advanced healthcare and supports its policyholders in detecting and effectively combating prostate cancer early.
