Immunology has transformed humanity’s understanding of itself and its fight against disease. Inflammation, an ancient defense mechanism against pathogens, is a double-edged sword in this context. Given the increasing threat of emerging pathogens and chronic inflammatory diseases, deciphering the cellular and molecular underpinnings of immunity and inflammation remains a paramount task in biomedical research. To advance the understanding of these processes, Springer Nature has launched “ Immunity & Inflammation ”. The journal publishes high-impact articles on groundbreaking discoveries and insights across the entire spectrum of immunity and inflammation—from basic research to translational and clinical studies.
The scope of this journal covers all areas of immunology and inflammation research, with a focus on the role of inflammation. “The journal particularly welcomes studies that explore the dual role of inflammation, including how appropriate inflammatory responses are essential for initiating and regulating normal immune functions, and how dysregulated or excessive inflammation contributes to the pathogenesis of various inflammatory diseases,” notes Professor Genhong Cheng, Associate Editor of Immunity & Inflammation .
By highlighting these areas, the journal aims to foster a deeper understanding of the role of inflammation in immunity and to support innovative approaches for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases.
To ensure the quality and transparency of research, the journal adheres to a rigorous peer-review process. The editorial board comprises over 100 renowned experts from 15 countries—including Nobel laureates and pioneers in immunotherapy, innate immunity, systems biology, and other fields. The journal publishes various article types, including original articles, reviews, brief reports, and research highlights.
