US triggers major global brain drain in AI

The "State of AI Talent Report 2025" by Zeki Data reveals 10 predictions on market shifts based on the top 800,000 AI talents

Zeki Data, the UK-based data intelligence company, today released the annual "State of AI Talent Report 2025". The full report can be downloaded for free.

Zeki predicts a dramatic shift in global flows of top AI talent that will help to address the imbalance in global AI innovation. The data is clear: US dominance in AI is rapidly waning as the industry's best minds decide to apply their skills elsewhere. In the short term, other countries will attract the talent they have long lamented losing – in the longer term, the consequences for the US could be severe.

The war for top AI talent is a zero-sum game – countries compete for a finite pool of individuals proven to have a disproportionately positive impact on the innovation of the companies and nations they join. Zeki believes there are many opportunities for smaller companies to attract young, emerging talent as large companies leverage AI in their recruitment efforts, leading to a homogenized talent pool.

The full report contains extensive data visualizations and Zeki's 10 top AI talent predictions:

  1. The US will no longer be the preferred destination for top AI talent in 2025.
  2. India will transition from a supplier to a demander of top AI talent in 2025.
  3. Major AI players in Europe and the Gulf states will double down on their efforts to retain their top AI talent.
  4. Google's talent concentration will underpin its LLM dominance.
  5. London will be the new epicenter for responsible technology.
  6. Big Pharma will play it safe and outsource the high-risk, high-reward discovery of AI-driven drugs.
  7. Nvidia's talent magnetism will reinforce its innovation leadership.
  8. The intersection of quantum and AI will grow, albeit at the expense of pure-play quantum companies.
  9. AI companies will expand their search for talent at the expense of medical research.
  10. The defense sector will buck the trend.
