In the week of April 15-21, 2026, laboratory medicine will focus on two central digital and international events. Experts will discuss regulatory challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence and celebrate the global role of laboratory diagnostics.
On April 15 and 16, 2026, the DELAB specialist forum "AI in the Lab Special – EU AI Act Compact and Practical" will take place online. The workshop is aimed at laboratory managers and highlights the practical implementation of the new EU AI Act in daily laboratory work, particularly risk classification, compliance, and effects on diagnostic processes.
On April 20, 2026, the IFCC Global MedLab Week 2026 begins, lasting until April 26. Under the motto "A Day at the Lab," the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine worldwide honors the work of laboratory professionals. Patients, professionals, and the public are invited to share insights into daily laboratory life – with photos, podcasts, or videos.
Additionally, on April 21, 2026, an EFLM webinar on "Reference Intervals versus Decision Limits and their specific qualities" will be held. The European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine will highlight the differences and clinical relevance of reference intervals and decision limits in laboratory diagnostics.
The dates underscore the ongoing digitalization and international networking of laboratory medicine. Other major conferences such as the Central German Laboratory Conference or the EFLM Strategic Conference will follow in the subsequent week.
