„The Fight For Black Lives“ documentary, directed and produced by University of Chicago Professor Micere Keels, explores how racial stress and systemic racism in healthcare disadvantages the health of Black Americans, by focusing on disproportionate maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. It will screen during Black Maternal Health Week, on April 14th, at the Blue Whiskey International Film Festival, in Elk Grove Village, IL. The Fight For Black Lives combines personal stories of Black women who were pregnant during the first year of the pandemic and Black Lives Matter uprisings, with archival footage and expert insights to place a spotlight on the systemic injustices baked into America’s healthcare system. It also challenges viewers to confront the historical reluctance of the government to provide adequate healthcare for formerly enslaved people, perpetuating present-day racial health disparities. Precision Biologics to Present at AACR

Precision Biologics, Inc. reports its lead monoclonal antibody, NEO-201, targets circulating human naïve regulatory T cells (Tregs) in both healthy donors and cancer patients. A poster presentation discussing this data will be presented at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2024. Poster title: The O-glycan epitope targeting anti-human carcinoma monoclonal antibody (mAb) NEO-201 can also target human regulatory T cells (Tregs) . This study was performed by Drs. Atsushi Tanaka and Shimon Sakaguchi from Osaka University, Japan. Dr. Sakaguchi’s group independently analyzed by flow cytometry the ability of NEO-201 to recognize naïve Tregs in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from healthy donors, confirming findings from Precision Biologics in PBMCs from cancer patients. The 96th National Congress will be held in L’Aquila, from 25 to 28 April 2024, at the Palazzo dell’Emiciclo, headquarters of the Regional Council of the Abruzzo Region (in via Michele Iacobucci, 4), as approved by our Board of Directors. The location of the Palazzo dell’Emiciclo is central and strategic, reachable on foot from hotels, B&Bs, and holiday homes in the center. April 2024 wird das Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute (TCAI) am St. David’s Medical Center sein siebtes internationales Symposium über komplexe Herzrhythmusstörungen, EPLive 2024, ausrichten. EPLive ist eine intensive, zweitägige Fortbildungsveranstaltung für Ärzte, Krankenschwestern und -pfleger, die sich mit der Behandlung komplexer Herzrhythmusstörungen befassen, bei denen das Herz in einem unregelmäßigen oder abnormen Rhythmus schlägt. Live-Fälle, die mit Expertenkommentaren aus dem hochmodernen elektrophysiologischen Zentrum im St. David’s Medical Center übertragen werden, dienen als primäres Lehrmittel.

Analytica 2024 läuft sich warm

Vom 9. bis 12. April findet zum 29. Mal die analytica, Weltleitmesse für Labortechnik, Analytik und Biotechnologie, auf dem Münchner Messegelände statt. Begleitet wird sie vom 9. bis 11. April von der analytica conference. In zahlreichen Sessions berichten Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler über aktuelle Themen aus Analytik, Qualitätskontrolle, Diagnostik, Mess- und Prüftechnik sowie aus der Biotechnologie und den Life Sciences. Das wissenschaftliche Programm der analytica conference wird vom Forum Analytik gestaltet, das sich aus der Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh), der Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie (GBM) und der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Klinische Chemie und Laboratoriumsmedizin (DGKL) zusammensetzt. DGS: Schmerzmedizin bleibt Problemfall

Zum Auftakt des Deutschen Schmerz- und Palliativtags 2024 hat der Präsident der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Schmerzmedizin, Johannes Horlemann, eine rechtssichere Bedarfsplanung gefordert. Diese existiere derzeit nicht, „da der Facharzt für Schmerzmedizin bisher nicht eingeführt wurde“. „Wenn wir jetzt nicht handeln, wird sich die schmerzmedizinische Versorgung in Deutschland weiter verschlechtern“, warnt Horlemann. Als Gründe führt der DGS-Präsident unter anderem den zunehmenden Mangel an Schmerzmedizinern an. Aktuell können die knapp 1.400 schmerzmedizinisch tätigen Spezialisten nur 10 % der schwerst schmerzerkrankten Betroffenen versorgen. Diese Situation werde sich unter anderem dadurch verschärfen, dass rund die Hälfte der Schmerzspezialisten in den nächsten Jahren in den Ruhestand geht. Auch eine Bedarfsplanung für die Schmerzmedizin existiere derzeit nicht.
