The BfArM has published the final version of OPS Version 2025 (Operations and Procedure Classification). Together with ICD-10-GM (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th Revision, German Modification), the OPS forms the basis for reimbursement systems in outpatient and inpatient care and is used in other areas of application such as quality assurance. The new version incorporated 185 suggestions, mostly from medical professional societies, physicians, health insurance companies, and hospitals, as well as from other self-governing organizations in the healthcare system.
Important content changes in Version 2025
Introduction of a new code for endovascular implantation of tricuspid valve replacement (5-35a.8)
Introduction of new codes for intraluminal and extraluminal valvuloplasty (5-39b ff., 5-39c ff.)
Further refinement of codes for operations on foot joints (5-808.b ff., 5-829.7 ff., 5-829.8 ff.)
Revision of codes for immunotherapy with antibodies (8-547.4, 8-547.5)

Operations and procedures must be coded according to OPS in both outpatient and inpatient settings. In contract physician care, only the codes listed in Appendix 2 of the Uniform Valuation Standard (EBM) may be used. Coding is based on the OPS Systematic Directory. The associated Alphabetical Directory facilitates the search for OPS codes.
The commentary in the preface of the Systematic Directory explains important innovations in the individual chapters. All changes in detail are included in the update list. The difference list contains the changes of the final version compared to the preliminary version.
The Alphabetical Directory for OPS 2025 will be adapted to the changes in the Systematic Directory and will also be published shortly.
The authority informs about mid-year error corrections and updates on its website in the Classifications section. All versions and formats are also available there.
