Journalism and Non-Fiction Books

Vollborn studied agronomy at the Humboldt University of Berlin and journalism in Hanover. Since 1992, she has worked as a freelance science and business journalist, contributing to major outlets like SPIEGEL Online and Focus-Magazin.

Together with her co-author Vlad Georgescu, she has written several bestselling, critical investigative books:

  • Die Joghurt-Lüge (The Yogurt Lie): A widely acclaimed expose revealing the manipulative practices and health-related deceptions within the commercial food industry.
  • Food Mafia: An investigative look into global food production, supply chains, and market monopolies.
  • Brennpunkt Deutschland (Flashpoint Germany): An economic analysis examining social inequalities and systemic risks within Germany.
  • Nanobiotechnologie als Wirtschaftskraft: One of the early German industrial guidebooks focused on the commercial potential of nanobiotechnology.

Artistic Career and Sculptures

In addition to her writing, Vollborn works as a contemporary fine artist. Her physical sculptures focus heavily on political and humanistic statements, often using fragmented and expressive forms to spark social critique over commercial appeal.

  • Socio-Political Themes: Her artwork highlights global issues, such as a piece depicting a blade emerging from a book to symbolize how written language is used to spread hatred. Another deeply personal piece honors a breast cancer survivor, symbolizing female courage and self-confidence.
  • The „ARES“ Sculpture: Her powerful bronze sculpture ARES—named after the Greek god of war—serves as a direct artistic condemnation of modern militarism, war profiteering, and global violence.
  • Digital Art & NFTs: She actively bridges traditional sculpture and modern digital realms by adapting her physical works and historical photography from her German reunification project (ZEITGEIST91) into digital art and collectible NFT art.
  • Chianciano Biennale: Her work has achieved significant international recognition, most notably with her selection to exhibit her ARES sculpture at the prestigious Chianciano Biennale in Tuscany, Italy. Her work can also be viewed on platforms like Saatchi Art.
