German Research Minister Dorothee Bär officially launched the German Academic Exchange Service’s (DAAD) new digital platform „Study Guide Germany“ on the evening of 5 November. The DAAD said the platform supports international prospective students in choosing a course and preparing to study in Germany, and helps German universities reach international talent at an early stage. The platform is funded by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space.
„International students are an asset to our universities and enrich science and business in our country during and after their studies. We therefore want to inspire the best minds from around the world to study in Germany and make it easier for them to find their way to our universities,“ Bär said. Study Guide Germany offered young people worldwide individual support in choosing a course and preparing for their studies.
DAAD President Joybrato Mukherjee added that Germany is very attractive for international students. The question was not only how many young people decide to study in Germany, but also that they arrive at universities as well prepared as possible to study successfully. The platform accompanies them from the orientation phase through choosing the right course to targeted preparation for studying and living in Germany. Feedback from international students showed that good preparation and realistic expectations are important for later academic success, he said.
Study Guide Germany offers individual orientation on more than 22,000 degree programmes at German universities based on personal educational profiles and interests, and recommends suitable programmes and universities. A personal checklist guides users step by step through the preparation process and shows which requirements must be met. The platform also provides information on scholarships and on subject-specific and language preparation. Universities can make their internationally oriented degree programmes more visible and be contacted early by qualified prospective students. The free service is to be continuously developed.
